Great, patient teacher who has supported me to sing and to play piano. As I am over 55 and was told at school that I was not musical I have never really tried again. I have always wanted to play piano and to have the confidence to sing. In the year that I have been having lessons with Emma she has helped me find my voice and my confidence to start learning piano. I was able to put together a recording of me singing for my son’s wedding and feel I have gained an insight into my own abilities and confidence.

Emma was chosen by our daughter to teach her trumpet, then violin, piano and guitar. Mrs Nottage has taught music to my daughter for over seven years & I can’t recommend her highly enough. She has encouraged and supported my daughter from primary school right the way through her GCSE’s including tutoring for her music GCSE. My daughter has always enjoyed her lessons she has been encouraged, supported and had her confidence built through Mrs Nottages style of teaching. My daughter has been taught 4 different instruments, some for pleasure, some for music exam grades & also for her Music GCSE. She has always found her lessons positive & something to enjoy. We have been working with Emma internationally through Zoom…in these days of CO-VID, it has been comforting to know that my 13-year-old trumpet player can still look forward to a lesson each week, amid greatly disrupted schedules. This is a great choice for those who may not feel comfortable with in-person lessons right now. Emma offers a wide variety of instrumental and vocal instruction. I have found that she really listened to my concerns as a parent about my son, and has provided the right balance of both encouragement and kindness, while also maintaining high expectations and pushing him to be his best. Emma is easy to work with, organized and is reasonably priced. We have been grateful for this opportunity! I would encourage others to take advantage of her experience and teaching skills.

Emma Nottage tutored my teenage daughter in sight reading and aural tests for Grade 5 piano, which have been weaker areas for her in the past. Emma was a knowledgeable and encouraging teacher, building on my daughter’s existing skills, and helped her develop both the skills and confidence to go into the exam without worrying. She teaches a wide range of skills including sight reading, exercises, composition, scales and encourages playing different musical genres allowing her pupils to develop in their own way. Emma’s music lessons are brilliant. I have always wanted to learn how to play the piano but never got around to it. As an adult I tried to learn how to play the piano from books with no success, I looked at different classes but none fitted in with my life. Then I found Emma’s classes. My experience as a singing student online with Emma has been life changing. For my entire adult life and adolescence my belief has been that I cannot sing and so I generally avoided singing. As I started to do more personal development and life coaching work in my forties, I started to question this and I wanted to challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone. I was very emotional, nervous and hesitant at first but Emma has helped me to discover more of my potential and she has helped me to understand and push past many of my limiting beliefs. Emma is a very encouraging, patient, caring, considerate and gentle teacher who helps me to feel at ease, she inspires me, helps me to grow and helps me to believe in myself more and be curious and excited about where this singing adventure could take me. Singing with Emma has done wonders for my mindset and wellbeing and this in turn leads to a better quality of life for me and for my loved ones. It has helped me to question limiting beliefs in other areas of my life and to become more open to learning about what else I may be capable of. It is a joy and a journey singing with Emma. I would definitely highly recommend Emma’s one to one singing classes to others!

At junior school, I was one of only 2 girls in my year refused admission to the school choir. I’ve spent more than 4 decades convinced that I am not merely not a very good singer, but that I am a spectacularly, horrifyingly, humiliatingly bad singer. When I started lessons with Emma, my aim was simply to feel confident enough to sing “happy birthday” as part of a group, rather than miming it.
